JOUJU (“JOUJU”) is establishing the following privacy policy (the “Policy”) regarding the handling of personal data of users within the services it provides on this website (the “Services”).

1. Personal Data.

“Personal Data” refers to the personal information defined in the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and includes information connected to a living individual, such as a person’s name, date of birth, address, telephone number, contact information, or other descriptions etc. that can be used to identify that person; data related to a person’s physical appearance, fingerprints, or voiceprint; and information such as the insurer number on a health-insurance card which can be used to identify a specific individual.

2. Methods of Collecting Personal Data.

JOUJU may ask individuals for their name, birth date, address, telephone number, email address, bank account number, credit card number, driver’s license number, or other Personal Data when they register as users. JOUJU may also collect records of transactions and payments (which include the Personal Data of users) between users and JOUJU’s business partners (including data brokers, advertisers, and ad delivery companies; collectively, “Partners”).

3. Purpose of Collecting and Using Personal Data.

JOUJU collects and uses Personal Data for the following purposes:

  • 1) to provide and manage the Services;
  • 2) to respond to inquiries from users (including identify verification);
  • 3) to distribute notifications about maintenance and other important matters when necessary;
  • 4) to identify and block users who breach the terms of service or use the Services for illegal or improper reasons;
  • 5) to allow users to view, modify, delete, or examine the usage status of their own registered data;
  • 6) to invoice users for their usage of paid Services; and
  • 7) for other purposes connected to the above.
  • 4. Modifying the Purpose of Use.

    When modifying the purpose of use, JOUJU shall do so within the scope of what is a reasonable extension of the previous purpose of use.
    After modifying the purpose of use, JOUJU shall notify users of the changes via its prescribed method or by publishing them on this website.

    5. Providing Personal Data to a Third Party.

    JOUJU does not provide Personal Data to a third party without the prior consent of its owner, except in the following situations (however, this does not apply when such provision is permitted by the Act on the Protection of Personal Information or other laws):

  • 1) if it is required to protect the life, health, or property of an individual, and obtaining the owner’s consent is difficult;
  • 2) if it is strongly necessary to improve public health or promote the healthy nurturing of children, and obtaining the owner’s consent is difficult;
  • 3) if it is necessary to cooperate with the legally mandated duties of national government agencies, municipalities, or their contractors, and obtaining the owner’s consent could hinder the execution of those duties; or
  • 4) if the following information is announced or publicized and reported to JOUJU’s Personal-Data Protection Committee:

  • a. the fact that the purpose of use includes provision to a third party;
  • b. the data items provided to a third party;
  • c. the means or methods by which the data is provided to a third party;
  • d. the fact that the provision of Personal Data to a third party will be suspended at the owner’s request; and
  • e. the method by which the owner’s request was received.

  • Irrespective of the previous provision, the following actions are not considered to be a provision of Personal Data to a third party:

  • 1) JOUJU outsourcing of all or a portion of the handling of Personal Data within the scope necessary to accomplish the purpose of use;
  • 2) the provision of Personal Data due to the succession of business resulting from a merger or other reasons; and
  • 3) JOUJU jointly using Personal Data with designated entities in cases where the data’s owner has been notified in advance of the Personal Data items that will be jointly used, the scope of who will jointly use the data, the reason why each entity will use the data, and the names of entities responsible for managing that Personal Data, or in cases where such information has been made readily available to the owner.
  • 6. Disclosing Personal Data.

    JOUJU shall promptly disclose Personal Data if it receives a request to do so from the data’s owner. However, all or a portion of this disclosure may be denied in the following situations (in which case the requesting individual will be notified of this fact); also, a fee of ¥1,000 will be charged for each disclosure of Personal Data:

  • 1) if the life, health, property, or other rights or interests of the owner or a third party are in danger of being harmed;
  • 2) if there is a danger of creating considerable difficulties in the proper execution of JOUJU’s business; or
  • 3) if doing so would violate other laws or regulations.

  • Irrespective of the previous provision, JOUJU will generally not disclose items that are not Personal Data, such as browsing history or other technical information.

    7. Amending and Deleting Personal Data.

    If Personal Data in the possession of JOUJU contains errors, the owner of that data may ask JOUJU to amend, supplement, or delete the data (those actions collectively, “Modifications”) via the procedure established by JOUJU.

    If JOUJU receives a user request as described in the previous provision and deems it valid, it shall promptly make Modifications to that Personal Data.

    JOUJU shall promptly notify the requesting user when it either makes the above Modifications or determines that the Modifications should not be made.

    8. Suspension of Personal-Data Usage.

    If the owner of Personal Data demands that JOUJU delete or stop using that data (collectively, “suspend usage”) because it is being handled in a way that exceeds its purpose of use or because it was obtained through improper means, JOUJU shall promptly investigate the matter as necessary.

    If JOUJU determines through this investigation that the user’s request is valid, it shall promptly suspend usage of that Personal Data.

    JOUJU shall promptly notify the requesting user when it either suspends usage in accordance with the previous provision or determines that it will not suspend usage.

    Irrespective of the previous two provisions, JOUJU shall take alternative measures needed to protect the rights and interests of the user in cases where suspending usage of their Personal Data would come at great expense or otherwise be difficult to implement.

    9. Modifying the Privacy Policy.

    JOUJU may modify this privacy policy without notifying users, except in cases that are covered separately by law or this policy.

    Except when specified separately by JOUJU, the modified privacy policy will take effect at the point in time that it is published on this website.
